As we ponder the ever-persistent question, are we alone in the universe, what voices in the dark are pondering the very same question? There are a billion trillion stars in the universe, many haven’t been discovered as of now. Many points of light are galaxies with untold number of stars waiting to be discovered. If you watch television, you know there are shows past and present which featured extraterrestrial life, some friendly some not so much. From what we know, a real encounter will not be a friendly one. The big question would be why do they even need to come to Earth? That question is the scary part. Let’s explore why for a moment.
Resources:
What possible resource could an ET need from our little planet? Water, oxygen, minerals are not reasons to come down to Earth since these resources are available in abundance in space. They would not come here looking for a work force either, think robotics. A species which travels the stars has the technology to gather and utilize available resources from space. They might camp out in our solar system since resources tend to collect around gravitational attractants such as our sun. Think about the asteroid belt, massive mineral deposits and water ice are abundant. Saturn’s rings have plenty of ice. Energy would not be an issue, a species which travels space would have those resources locked down tight. What about real estate for colonialization? What about bio mass? We have both and those are not in abundance that we know of. Bio Mass? We humans, all life including plants, animals are bio mass. We may be the resource they need. To civilization’s thousands of years older than us, would we even be considered intelligent to them, would they even care? A race that survived for millennium would be an Alpha species.

Alpha Species:
A species which is at the apex of the food chain would come in and wipe us out before we even knew what to do about it. Think about this, if a species can travel faster than light or use a technique we do not know of yet, there military technology would be very advanced, the knowledge and experience, eliminating or colonizing worlds would have prepared them for every eventuality. The attack may not be noticed until too late, bug spray so to speak, mass drivers, robotic shock troops, the possibilities are numerous.
Conclusion:
We are still recovering from the dark ages In so many ways. We are rediscovering techniques and technologies lost since the fall of the Roman empire; although, the Byzantine empire existed until much later until defeated. Currently, many consider technological innovations such as cell phones, carbon free transportation actual innovations. In some ways, these are but enhancements on travel and communication which have been around many centuries. The computer chip is just an enhancement, a step up from transistors and paper. Innovations are different from actual discoveries, think about, first flights, first space flights, first written words. Poor ET has discovered FTL (Faster than light) or space folding, ships which withstand the dangers of space, weapons we can only dream up in some science fiction novel. What would we be to them?
